You’re Welcome, America!

You’re Welcome, America!

Congratulations to the Seattle Seahawks, and to everyone who won money betting on them using our never-fail chicken wing bone prediction! Incredibly, that makes 48 Super Bowls in a row that the bones have been correct! I realize that’s very hard to believe, but in fairness, lots of things are very hard to believe.

Anyway, you’re more than welcome, and if you did win big, please feel free to break me off a little something. These chicken wings don’t pay for themselves! ;) Enjoy!

The Food Wishes' Chicken Wing Collection

The Food Wishes' Chicken Wing Collection

Just in case you haven't decided on a chicken wing for tomorrow's Super Bowl party, maybe this will help. Here, for the first time, we've pulled together every single Food Wishes' chicken wing recipe into one, convenient post. Enjoy!

Jerk Chicken Wings

In the spirit of full disclosure, these will be the wings I'll be enjoying for the game.

Garlic Parm Hot Wings

If casual dinning restuarants have taught us anything, it's that people love garlic-parm whatever.

Original Buffalo Chicken Wings

There's no way to prove this is the original recipe, which is a probably good thing.

Clifton Springs Chicken Wings

By far, our most popular and highest-rated chicken wing recipe.

Pastrami Chicken Wings

Sure, pastrami sandwiches are awesome, but they don't have any bones! Now, these on the other hand.

Spicy Orange Chicken Wings

I can't say who I stole this spicy orange glaze from, but it rhymes with "Panda Express."

Peanut Butter & Pepper Jelly Chicken Wings

This is no gimmick! Okay, it is, but it's an incredibly delicious gimmick.

Sweet and Hot Mustard-Glazed Chicken Wings

Hey, there's a reason honey-mustard is the second most popular chicken nugget sauce in the world.
Our 2014 Super Bowl Prediction!

Our 2014 Super Bowl Prediction!

Once again, it’s time I let you in on my magical method for picking the Super Bowl winner, using the ancient gypsy art of Buffalo chicken wing bone reading. I can't tell you how I learned to do this, or why anyone in their right mind would take it seriously, but what I can tell you is this... the Seattle Seahawks will beat the Denver Broncos. Guaranteed. It's a lock. Bet the kids' college fund.

In the spirit of full disclosure, I should mention that I’m partnered with Allrecipes.com, which is based in Seattle, and run by fanatical Seahawks fans. So, a cynic might say this pick was made to simply keep the corporate overlords happy. Well, if that were the case, why would I even mention it, and raise suspicions? Maybe you think this is some sort of vague, cryptic message telling you to actually bet on the Broncos? Well, that’s just ridiculous.

Anyway, good luck, and I’ll apologize in advance for bumping you up into a higher tax bracket after you collect your winning. You’re welcome, kids. Enjoy!

Beast Mode Vodka? I’ll Take an Anchor Steam!

Beast Mode Vodka? I’ll Take an Anchor Steam!

My friends at Allrecipes.com created this unique drink to celebrate the Seattle Seahawks, their garish team colors, and their borderline-insane running back’s favorite candy. Seattle is well known for having the loudest, craziest fans in the league, and if this drink catches on, it will certainly prove the later.

I live in San Francisco, and will be rooting for the Niner’s, so there won’t be any of this freaky fluorescence flowing at my Super Bowl party, but if you are a ‘Hawks supporter, I invite you to watch the video and give “Beast Mode Vodka” try. That way, if your team loses, at least you’ll have a horrible hangover to look forward to! Enjoy!

Celebrating National Peach Melba Day!

Celebrating National Peach Melba Day!

According to both reliable sources and food bloggers, Monday, January 13th, is National Peach Melba Day. My first thought was this would make a great excuse to repost our version; but then I had another more disturbing thought...why was a recipe featuring the quintessential  summer fruit being celebrated in the middle of winter? Any ideas?

Anyway, I've worked at more than one establishment that served this using canned peaches, so don't let that peaches aren't in season thing stop you from enjoying this oddly-timed food holiday. Click here to read the original post and see the full recipe. Enjoy!

Are Your New Year's Eve Eats, Completes?

Are Your New Year's Eve Eats, Completes?

Just in case you're looking for some extra special appetizers for your New Year's Eve party, I've put together a little collection of my favorites. These crowd-pleasers are so delicious, you may even get a kiss before midnight. Just click on the title, and away you go. Enjoy!

Coquilles St-Jacques

The kind of special occasion appetizer we used to enjoy before the dieticians and celebrity chefs ruined it for everybody.

All-American Shrimp Cocktail

There's something about dunking a jumbo shrimp in cocktail sauce that just feels like New Year's Eve

Fancy Mixed Nuts

Why the hell would anyone put out separate bowls of nuts, when you can go full mixed nuts? It's nuts.

Potato & Chorizo Mini Quiches

Originally a Super Bowl snack idea, these mini-quiches will work just as well on that fancy hors d'oeuvres buffet. They can be fancied up in an infinite number of ways.

Oyster Rockefeller

Any appetizer with "Rockefeller" in the name has got to work here. By the way, if you're under 35, you should call it "Oysters Roc-A-Fella." Trust me.

Clams Casino

It's not gambling if you know you're going to win. By the way, the house (that serves these) always wins.
I'm Back with a New Trick in My Bag!

I'm Back with a New Trick in My Bag!

That's right, I just flew in from New York, and boy, are my jokes tired. Wait, I think I've already used that one before...which I guess proves my point. Anyway, I've returned from Christmas break with the family, and looking forward to resuming normal production soon (for you newbies that's 2.5 videos every week!).

Technically, we're not supposed to work until the New Year, but it's been too long without a video, and I'm starting to get the shakes, so I'm going to film something today. By the way, the photo shows a very successful experiment I did cooking a prime rib "sous vide" style in a cooler. Now that I think about it, the title should actually be, "New Bag in my Tricks."

I got the idea here, and it worked beautifully! I don't think I'd be able to film, edit and post before New Year's Eve, but rest assumed this will be shared on the channel at some point. Stay tuned. I missed you all!
Chef John’s Taking Another Break!

Chef John’s Taking Another Break!

The recent break I took over the Thanksgiving holiday was the first time in six years that I’d gone a whole week without posting a video. Well, since everyone was so understanding, and seemed genuinely happy that I was taking a vacation, I’ve decided to take another one.

That’s right, it seems as though I have a few more days of vacation time to use up, and it’s either take them before the end of the year, or risk a terse email from Human Resources.

This actually works out perfectly, since I’m flying back east to spend the Christmas holiday with my family. My hope is that you’re all be so busy eating, drinking, and of course, shopping, that you’ll hardly notice I’m gone.

By the way, I know I’ve mentioned heading back to New York many times, but I’m not sure if I’ve ever specified exactly where. Here’s a map with good ol’ Machester, NY pinned for all to see. You’re welcome, stalkers. Anyway, I hope you all have a great week, and I promise this will be the last vacation I take this year.
I’m (almost) Back!

I’m (almost) Back!

Today is the last day of my vacation, and I'm sorry, but I just couldn’t not post any longer. So, I wanted to say a quick hello, and thank everyone who sent along their well-wishes during the break. By the way, I loved seeing the pictures many of you posted on Twitter and Instagram of our Thanksgiving recipes!

Unfortunately, I didn’t get a chance to golf as I'd planned, but I did keep myself busy with a few fun projects around the house. One of those projects was definitely not an awesome and illegal pizza oven built from a pile of bricks found in the garden (not pictured here). Nope, that didn’t happen.

Anyway, I’ll have a brand new video recipe tomorrow, so be sure to stay tuned for that, and as always…I missed you!
Chef John’s Taking a Break!

Chef John’s Taking a Break!

One of the things I love about my partnership with Allrecipes.com is that they actually make me take these things called, “vacations.” Apparently these periodic breaks are quite common in corporate America, and supposedly help the employee relax, rest, and recharge. Since I’m going to be golfing, that’s not going to happen, but still, I appreciate the time.

I’ll be off for a week, and by “off,” I really mean “off.” While comments will be published, I will not be monitoring the blog while out, so when it comes to cooking questions, you’ll be at the mercy of fellow foodwishers and Google. Good luck with that. Anyway, I hope you have a great Thanksgiving, and I look forward to getting back to work next week. Enjoy!
